| Sabini Lisicki visits her successors |
|
At the International German Championships the matches of the second round were held today, on Wednesday. 13 of the top 16 tournament players could move on into the third round, among them the last three remaining top German players. The No 1 player, Alexandros-Fernandos Georgoudas, really had to make an effort before he could beat his fellow countryman Florian Fallert in three hard sets. The No 3, Richard Becker, had to fight hard as well, before he won the match against Marvin Netuschil (both Germany). It went a little easier for the recent Wimbledon doubles champion, Kevin Krawietz, who defeated Thorsten Bertsch in two sets.
Because of the bad weather conditions the juniors’ matches of the girls were repeatedly delayed. The 15 year-old Daria Gajos was defeated and with her the biggest Berlin talent had to leave. But she played a very good match against today’s Germany’s No 1, Sina Haas (18 years old), and lost after two balanced sets, another example of her convincing talents. Shortly before she was leaving for the American tournament series, Germany’s great white hope in women’s tennis, Sabine Lisicki came for a short visit to Lake Hundekehle. The doubles champion of the 2004 junior tournament watched the matches of her successors with interest. The visit of the Wimbledon quarter finalist was a great inspiration for today’s juniors. On Thursday, July 9th, the matches start at 1:00 pm. Entry is free. |
