Die größte internationale Tennisveranstaltung in der Hauptstadt bleibt für 2010 in Berlin erhalten. Auch im kommenden Juli werden wieder die besten jugendlichen Tennisspieler aus aller Welt beim LTTC „Rot-Weiß“ bei den Internationalen Deutschen Jugendmeisterschaften aufschlagen. Es war ein großes Glück, dass der Deutsche Tennis Bund im vergangenen Jahr diese Meisterschaften auf Dauer hierher vergeben hat, gerade auch in einer Situation, in der Berlin Gefahr lief, nach dem Wegfall der „Qatar German Open der Damen“ ganz aus dem Focus des weltweiten Tennisgeschehens zu verschwinden. Mit der Einstufung in „Grade 1“ des Turnierkalenders der International Tennis Federation wird das Turnier weiterhin direkt hinter den vier Grand Slam Turnieren folgen.

German success story: Friedsam and Krawietz |
 After 30 years the International German Junior Championships were held again at the LTTC “Rot-Weiss” and both single champion titles remained in Germany. After a week of far from ideal weather conditions, the two singles finals were played in front of a spectacular lake view in perfect weather. Over 400 spectators enjoyed those surroundings and could satisfy themselves of the outstanding performance of the junior participants. |

German final: Krawietz vs. Becker |
 The International German Championships are drawing to a close and on the next to last day three German juniors managed to overcome the last obstacle before reaching the finals.
Kevin Krawietz, only a week ago Wimbledon champion in the doubles, triumphed over the US-Boy Raymond Sarmiento, scoring 6 – 2, 6 – 4, and seems unstoppable on his way to his second huge success in a row in only a week’s time. The only obstacle for this success story is Richard Becker, who won a surprisingly easy match against his fellow countryman Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas, scoring 6 -2, 6 – 4 as well. The Australian Open finalist didn’t seem to be able to perform as powerfully as usual. He made quite a lot of mistakes and Becker’s victory seemed effortless. At the final match on Sunday, Becker as well as Krawietz have a chance to become one of the top 20 rated players of the world.
The German success was completed by Anna-Lena Friedsam. She beat Natalija Kostic (Serbia) in a hard won match, especially considering the first two sets. The score was 7 – 5, 4 – 6 and 6 – 1. Friedsam’s performance is highly impressive at the moment and she seems well able to win the championship against the Russian Yulia Putinseva in the final.
All in all German talent promotion can be more than satisfied with the performance and the results of their players at this top quality, international junior tournament. One championship title is already certain and the chances of Anna-Lena Friedsam will be decided in the final on Sunday.

Premierenturnier im Midfeldtennis |

 Im Rahmen der Internationalen Deutschen Jugendmeisterschaften fand an den beiden Schlusstagen auf der Rot-Weiß Anlage eine besondere Premiere statt: Erstmals wurde im Verbandsgebiet Berlin-Brandenburg ein Midfeldturnier für Kinder im Alter von 8 bis 10 Jahren durchgeführt. Midfeld heißt: Ein in der Größe reduziertes Einzeltennisfeld mit normaler Tennisnetz Höhe. Gespielt wird dabei mit druckreduzierten Bällen. Obwohl zum ersten Mal ausgetragen, war der Zuspruch überraschend hoch. 34 Kinder aus vielen Berliner Tennisvereinen hatten gemeldet und wurden mit Obst und den obligatorischen Gummibärchen begrüßt. Auf eine Nenngebühr hatte der Veranstalter natürlich verzichtet.
